Art’s chool.

Art School is fun.

Well maybe fun isn’t the right word…

Staying up til 3:30 am doing a project, waking 4 hours later to get downtown for class from 9-4 and then repeating for weeks on end; It sounds torturous, but it really gives you an unexpected sense of satisfaction. I feel like I’ve been getting a huge breadth of information and experience so far this year, making models, learning architecture history, working with different mediums.

Anyway, here are some of my projects from the past 6 weeks or so:

Ahhhhhhhhhh sorry friends

August 29, 2009

Sorry my blog tailed off so fast. I tried for a little bit and then my summer just kicked into gear and I jsut never felt like sitting down and writing anything.

I should have documented pitchfork fest.

I should have documented my time home in July

I should have documented my bands tour. (accually I might transcribe my tour diary on here)

Anyway. I start school in 5 or 6 days and I presume I will post more on here once that starts (as I beg for distractions). This summer has been eventful, hectic, dramatic and dynamic and any other word you might imagine for a summer filled with parties, travelling, music friends and often all three mixed together. I think net summer I will attempt to become a real person, get a real job, get some real life responsibility.

Indigo Plateau

June 10, 2009

Phewwwww. Its been a busy past week and a half.

But now we’re all moved into our new place!

DSC02939Here you can see it has a nice open floor plan in the public space. There’s lots of light in the kitchen/living room area where we currently have most of our music stuff set up. The exposed brick gives a nice atmosphere to the area as well.

Current Events: End of May

May 30, 2009

Hello spiders

Get it?

Well I’ve had a pretty good couple weeks here being out of school and whatnot. We had a party at our apartment which was themed: art, cheese and wine. The next weekend I ventured home with fellow clevelanders for Blossom festival in our hometown.

At the art party, everyone was required to bring either wine or cheese and an original piece of art, which we posted up on our walls for everyone to see.

DSC02847All of the pieces were appreciated, ranging from sketches to paintings, photographs to post-modern ponderings of a half naked jake gyllenhaal.

Here I am, back home again.

May 14, 2009

Hey friends.

So I am at home in Cleveland right now, about to eat some Swedish pancakes for my little sister’s birthday dinner.

I’ve been been playing the piano a lot the past couple days and It feels nice. I hope to have a piano in my new apartment which I’m moving into in about 2 weeks.

I thought that when I finished school I wouldn’t really want to think about design and architecture, but its not really the case. I have been thinking about it, I want to design something, but with only limited knowledge, its hard to just “create ideas” unless It is for an assignment.

I’ve been making music instead, which is a huge relief. After such a long break from doing I also feel like I can kind of start new. I don’t feel like I’m recycling ideas, and it is really interesting and relieving.

Anyway, I said I’d be posting some projects of mine, so here is an older design project. This was is less refined than the project in the previous post, but I like it nonetheless.

This is an entryway.

It is fairly straightforward, all we had to have was two doorways, a closet space, windows and a place to sit, and then worry about the color scheme and details.

Again its a small space so we had to really grapple with the layout and efficiency, openness, etc

I wanted to incorporate a stairway, a feature i also used to tackle the necessity of seating. Read the rest of this entry »

Final Project – Interior Architecture

May 7, 2009

Feels Good to be almost done.

I’ve been so busy so consistently since the end of January, I can’t imagine the concept of having free time. I’ve got one more final in the morning for Art History, and I should probably be putting energy into that instead of this.

So here is this project I just finished and presented today for my Interior Architecture Final:

with-city

The assignment was to design a hotel room. It had to be 10′x15′ with 11′ ceilings. We were encouraged to alter the ceiling height in such a way as to create drama in the space. We needed to have a desk, a bed, a bathroom, a closet and entertainment (TV).

Hi, Internet.

May 6, 2009

Hi, Internet.

My name is Michael O’Neill and I have decided to “express myself” via an internet ‘weblog’. This Blog is more for myself and to put a time-stamp on my ideas, thoughts and projects. I would also like to share it with the citizens of the world wide web and hopefully get some feedback.

I am 19 and a student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, studying architecture and design. I play in a band called His Hideous Heart and recently started a side project which shares a name with this blog.

I will probably post everything from Music projects, sound clips, Photos of my design work, random photos and musings of them all.

I do not want this blog to be a “music blog” nor a “design blog” but I would like it to pertain to both and hopefully draw some connections between the two fields.

Tomorrow is my last day of finals for this semester so hopefully I’ll be able to update it pretty frequently as I go on summer break.

Before I post anything meaningful or relevant I need to figure out the site more. I will talk to my friends Brian and James, authors of the following blogs, respectively:

When we were younger and Better

Shock Mountain

Anyways, be back soon.
